The Anastasia
Size guide
Each Anastasia is made to order in UK sizes 6–16. Finding your size takes two minutes and a soft tape measure. Here's everything you need.
Choose your size by your waist.
The Anastasia has a corset-style bodice. It's structured, it has no stretch, and it's designed to sit close and firm at the waist. That's what gives the dress its shape, and it makes your waist measurement the one that decides your size, not the size you usually buy on the high street.

How the Anastasia fits
-
Waist: firm, by design
The waist is the fixed point of the dress. If your waist is at the top of a range, expect a close, snug fit. That's how the bodice is meant to feel. If you'd like a little more room to sit, eat and dance, choose the next size up.
-
Between sizes, or on the line?
Where a measurement appears in two sizes, go by your waist and choose the larger size. It's always easier for a tailor to take a dress in than to let it out.
-
Bust
Check that your bust falls within the range for your size, but most importantly, choose your size by your waist.
-
Hips: room to move
The skirt is cut on the bias, which gives it natural movement and a more relaxed fit than the bodice. It's a slim column with a back slit for walking, and if it's a touch generous on you, it can be taken in easily.
-
Length: cut long, on purpose
Every Anastasia is made extra long so it can be hemmed to your height and the shoes you'll wear. Below is the length of the dress, measured from the top of the shoulder (where it meets the neck) straight down the front to the hem.
UK 6 8 10 12 14 16 cm 152.8 153.4 154 154.6 155.2 155.8 in 60 60.5 60.5 61 61 61.5 To compare, wear the shoes you plan to wear and have someone measure you from the same point at the top of your shoulder, straight down the front to the floor. The difference is roughly how much your tailor will take up. We recommend a professional hem once you've chosen your heels.
The hem is hand-finished with a deep, reinforced 10cm turn-up, made specifically so the length can be adjusted. The lining hangs free, held to the hem with small thread chains, so your tailor can adjust it separately.
-
Made for small adjustments
The back seam has a 2cm allowance running all the way from the top of the back to the hem, so a tailor can let the dress out by 2cm. The straps have a 1cm allowance, so they can be let out by 1cm too.
How to measure
Use a soft tape measure, and ask a friend to help if you can.
-
Bust
Measure around the fullest part of your bust, with the tape level across your back. If you plan to wear a bra, wear it while you measure. (The Anastasia doesn't need one.)
-
Waist (the important one)
Find your natural waist: the narrowest part of your torso, usually a few centimetres above your belly button. If you bend to one side, it's where your body creases. Measure there, not at your belly button or where your jeans sit, which gives a bigger number and the wrong size.
-
Hip
Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, usually about 20cm (8in) below your natural waist.
For an accurate measurement
- Measure over light underwear, not over clothes.
- Stand straight and relaxed, and breathe normally. Don't hold your breath in.
- Keep the tape snug but not tight. You should be able to slide one finger underneath.
- Measure twice. If the two measurements differ, use the larger one.
