The studio vahl story
Hi, I'm Steph and I founded Studio Vahl in March 2026.
It all started with a wedding.
When I was a bridesmaid for one of my closest friends, I couldn’t believe how hard it was to find a good dress, and I wasn’t the only bridesmaid struggling. Then I talked to friends who were brides and heard the same thing from the other side. They were exhausted from trying to find something lovely for their bridesmaids, on top of everything else a wedding throws at you.
This is what I wanted:
- A natural fabric. Something high quality and breathable, not plastic.
- A fair price. Under £600.
- A flattering, classic shape. Slinky polyester never worked on my body.
- Something I’d genuinely wear again.
It didn’t exist, so I made it.
The more I looked, the bigger the problem seemed. Around 230,000 couples marry in the UK every year. That could mean 750,000 bridesmaids, and 750,000 dresses, many of them polyester and worn exactly once. Our planet, and our wallets, deserve better.
So I left my corporate job to start studio vahl. I believe plenty of us would rather spend a little more on one beautiful thing that lasts than a lot on something we’ll never wear again. I want to make that choice easy for every bride and bridesmaid.
If you’re reading this, thank you. I hope that one day, when you’re holding a studio vahl dress in your hands, you love it as much as I do.
My inbox is always open. Ideas, feedback, or just hello: hello@studiovahl.com
With love,

Manufacturing & Production
Made in London, by people we know
We think you should know exactly who makes your clothes. So here they are, by name.
- Made by MAES London in Tottenham, North London, where every dress is cut and sewn to order.
- Silk from Pongees, a London silk specialist.
- Lining from Bernstein & Banleys, The Lining Company.
- Trimmings from The London Trimmings Company.
All are family-run, all are based in and around London, and all are people we work with directly.
